Chimneys
We cover a range of chimney problems, most problem with water ingression tend to occur on a join on the roof and the chimney is one of the main joins. Usual problems we undertake regularly are replacing the fillet or lead flashing at the roof base of the chimney, repointing and re-flaunching as well as adding bird cages and chimney caps.
Flaunch
The flaunch is a mortar fillet applied around the base of chimney pots to hold them in place and to prevent water penetrating the top of the stack. This is important to stop water ingress into the bricks within the stack itself as well as letting water into the flue.
Repointing
Being exposed to the elements repointing of a chimney stack is something we undertake with most chimney repairs.
Rebuilding
We have chimney specialists that cover rebuilding chimneys, rebuilding a chimney is a very specialised profession and many roofers and bricklayers alike have been fooled into thinking that a chimney is simply a square box when in fact a 6 or 8 flue chimney can be a very complicated system. We cover all rebuild projects form 1 flue and 1 course stacks to full rebuilds of 8 flue chimney stacks.
Lead flashing
Lead flashing is usually in 1 of three forms around the base of a chimney. When the chimney is attached to a pitched roof you are likely to see stepped flashing going up the chimney vertically, while along a horizontal axis you would expect to see a lead apron. We have won awards for our leadword and cover all aspects. A third form of lead seal is called a soaker and will sit under the tile / slate for an added level of protection.
