Sarah reaching her breaking point during the latest cold spell, her daughters bedroom was so cold and the central heating just couldn’t complete with the loss of height through the bedrooms dormer windows flat roof.
Sarah called in Synergy Roofing to find the answer. As the dormer window was covered in an old felt roof we suggested she replaced the felt roof with a modern GRP (fibre glass) covering. And while we were doing that, we should install a warm roof at the same time.
A warm roof is a flat roof that has insulation installed under the roof covering. As the insulation covers the whole roof, rather than traditional insulation the sits between the joists, the insulation is far more efficient. We installed the new warm roof, the added the new GRP roof covering with it’s market beating 20 year manufacturers and installers guarantee. As we raised the height of the existing roof to install the 120mm insulation we also installed a new fascia board.
The end result ? A toasty warm bedroom !!

After lifting the old felt covering off, we replaced the decking with marine grade ply and then installed a Visqueen Vapour Barrier

We also used kickboard at the back of the roof to ensure any water would not flow back into the property. All water will flow back towards the tlles, then off the sides of the flat roof onyo a lead flashing and dissipate onto the roof.

The GRP’s roof covering decking has now been installed, the trims have been attached and it’s now waiting for the GRP covering.

The top coat has been applied, in this case the roof wasn’t going to be used for foot traffic so there was no need for adding a course surface.
