Grp flat roof

Filed under: Current Projects — admin @ 5:18 pm

A lovely day for a new roof. Mrs S asked us last year to replace the roof on her garage. The lady had been conned by a cowboy builder who hadn’t done what they said and installed the felt incorrectly.

We tried, in vain, to contact the person responsible. As usual in these cases, the mobile number wasn’t answered and the company ceased to exist.

Some of the basic procedures to ensure you don’t get ripped off by cowboy builder:

Due Diligence:

Make sure the company is a members of CITB – this is a legal requirements for ALL construction companies and individuals. Ask for their CITB number.

Ask to see public liability insurance – again, a legal requirement, if they don’t have one or cant produce one, tell them to leave.

Ask for references

Never pay money up front for work, not a deposit, not for materials, nothing. Only pay when the work is completed, all reputable companies will do this.

Anyway, back to this project. As you can see the weather was fantastic if a little cold, we replaced the dormer roof covering, removing the existing felt that was starting to leak and replacing with a far sturdier GRP roof covering.

After the old roof covering was stripped, we installed the GRP drip trims and started matting

After the matting has had the resin applied and dried we can apply the top coat

Top coat has been applied, now the roof is watertight for a least 20 years up to 50 years

Just the ridge to re-install now, we had to remove it to create a tight seal and stop any water ingression

Chimney flashing replacement

Chimney flashing replacement

A job which required the previous lead to be stripped out and replaced. As you can see, another job well done by the Synergy roofers as they replaced the original with some new lead and topped it off with applying some patination oil, by doing this, the synergy team have helped the water flow straight off the lead.
